Meet Gabriela
Registered Counselling Therapist - Candidate
Gabriela is a BIPOC psychotherapist originally from Managua, Nicaragua, now based in Nova Scotia after many years living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Canadian Mennonite University and a Master of Arts in Counselling from Providence Seminary. Gabriela is a Registered Counselling Therapist Candidate with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and a Canadian Certified Counsellor.
Since 2011, Gabriela has worked in crisis and reproductive mental health counselling, supporting individuals through some of life’s most vulnerable and complex experiences. She is passionate about creating a compassionate, culturally sensitive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their healing journey.
Therapeutic Approach & Modalities
Gabriela works from a trauma-informed, feminist, narrative, and client-centred approach. She believes that every person already carries inner strengths and resilience, and her role is to help clients reconnect with those capabilities while navigating life’s challenges.
She incorporates techniques from Narrative Therapy and other evidence-based approaches to help clients explore their experiences, build self-compassion, and feel a greater sense of autonomy and empowerment in their lives.

As someone with lived experience navigating different cultures, Gabriela understands the emotional complexities that can arise when experiencing pregnancy, parenthood, or loss in a new country or community.

Gabriela values building genuine therapeutic relationships and works alongside clients to develop healthy coping strategies that support emotional well-being and healing.
Her holistic approach may include resources such as books, podcasts, reflective exercises, and worksheets tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.
